The bottom line

For me, daily decision fatigue led me to neglecting my closet. I architected ABC Stylist, an AI agent designed to turn my physical closet into a proactive, context-aware styling partner. I photographed every piece of clothing to build a digital archive of my wardrobe. By training a custom Gemini persona in my specific style logic, I transformed raw data into personalized recommendations.

The friction

Digital closet apps often fail because they are manual-entry catalogs rather than intelligent stylists. There is a friction in bridging the gap between physical items and digital recommendations. I needed a system that understood not just what I owned, but the context of why and how to wear it—bridging raw data with personal preference and aesthetic resonance.

The strategy + execution

I treated my wardrobe as an information architecture problem, layering high-fidelity data, automation, and persona-driven AI.

  • Structured data architecture: I conducted a full visual audit, photographing every garment. I digitized these into a Google Sheets brain with a standardized taxonomy tracking alphanumeric IDs, materials, silhouettes, and color palettes.

  • Custom automation: I used Google Apps Scripts to bridge the visual and data layers, automatically pulling Drive image links into the database and using Gemini’s vision capabilities to bulk-tag fabric textures and color tones with high accuracy.

  • The Oakland Creative persona: I built a custom Gemini Gem with a sophisticated Lead Stylist persona. Beyond outfit pairing, the agent can now perform wardrobe analytics; recommending purges based on redundancy or suggesting strategic gap-fillers based on my existing silhouettes.

  • Algorithmic styling rules: Programmed the agent with signature styling logic, including mandatory rules like the ‘Ferry Tuck’ for transit and ‘Double Bagging’ for morning to evening transitions. The AI was trained to favor contrastful pairings, such as feminine silks with chunky lug-sole boots.

  • Visual output mandates: Established strict artistic parameters for the AI's image generation. All outputted fashion sketches had to feature a consistent subject matching my specific heritage and styling, set against a minimalist, black-and-white urban sketch to ensure the clothing remained the focal point.

The impact

ABC Stylist functions as a proactive, context-aware digital partner. It delivers personalized recommendations based on lifestyle variables like office-to-social transitions. By automating the data layer, I’ve shifted the utility of the closet from basic storage to wardrobe intelligence, helping me to identify redundancies and make strategic, gap-filling curation choices.
